Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it — in plain English.

Who we are

Cambridge Webworks is a sole trader business owned by James Cope, based in Cambridge, UK.

When this policy says “we” or “us”, it means Cambridge Webworks.

What personal data we collect

We only collect information we need to run the business and respond to you. That may include:

  • Contact form submissions — your name, email address, and the message you send.
  • Client onboarding — business details and assets you share when we start a project (for example company name, branding files, or content you provide).
  • Email newsletter sign-ups — your name and email address if you choose to join our mailing list.

We do not ask for more than we need, and we do not sell your personal data.

How we use your information

We use this data to reply to enquiries, deliver our services, manage client projects, and (if you have signed up) send newsletters you have asked for. We keep access limited to what is needed for those purposes.

Cookies

This website may use cookies and similar technologies. Cookies are small files stored on your device that help the site work properly and, where you agree, help us understand how the site is used or support advertising.

We group them roughly as follows:

  • Necessary cookies — These are needed for the site to function (for example remembering your cookie choices or keeping the site secure). They stay on because without them the site would not work properly.
  • Analytics cookies — These help us see how people use the site (for example which pages are popular). A common example is Google Analytics. We only use these where you have agreed to them.
  • Marketing cookies — These may be used to measure ads or show relevant content, for example through services like Google Ads or Meta Pixel. We only use these where you have agreed to them.

When you first visit, you will see a cookie consent banner. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies there, and you can change your mind at any time by opening the banner again (usually via a “Cookie settings” or similar control on the site) to update your preferences.

Why we are allowed to use your data (legal basis)

UK data protection law (including the UK GDPR) requires us to have a valid reason to process personal data. Depending on the situation, we rely on:

  • Legitimate interests — for example running the business, answering enquiries, delivering projects, and keeping our website secure. We balance our interests with your rights and only use data in ways you would reasonably expect.
  • Consent — where the law requires it, for example for non-essential cookies or marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time (unsubscribe links in emails, or cookie settings on the site).
  • Contract — when we need your details to provide a service you have asked us to provide.

How long we keep information

We keep personal data only as long as we need it — for example while we handle an enquiry, deliver a contract, or meet legal or accounting requirements. When we no longer need it, we delete it or anonymise it.

Sharing your data

We may use trusted service providers (for example email, hosting, or analytics) who process data on our instructions. We do not allow them to use your data for their own marketing. If we ever needed to share data for another reason, we would tell you when that applies.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights including to access your data, correct mistakes, delete data in certain cases, object to some processing, and complain to a regulator. To exercise your rights or ask a question, email us at build@cambridgewebworks.co.uk.

The ICO

As a sole trader, we are not required to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the same way as some larger organisations. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can contact us first — we will do our best to put things right. You can also contact the ICO if you have concerns: ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. We encourage you to check back occasionally.
